A través del Programa Sumar se brinda atención de salud gratuita a la población inscripta en todos los establecimientos públicos de salud de la Provincia. Las personas beneficiarias del programa acceden a un seguimiento de salud pormenorizado, que abarca tanto acciones de prevención de enfermedades como de promoción de hábitos saludables.
Atención durante el parto, cuidados especiales para el recién nacido, asistencia en embarazos de alto riesgo, y consultas sobre enfermedades de transmisión sexual, salud bucal, detección de problemas auditivos, patologías cardiacas, nutrición, problemas respiratorios, salud sexual y reproductiva, son solo algunos de los beneficios de la cobertura.
Cabe destacar que el Programa Sumar es la ampliación del Plan Nacer, que fue implementado en la Provincia a partir de 2004. La inscripción es gratuita y sólo requiere presentación de DNI de quien vaya a anotarse.
En Salta ya suman 677.107 los beneficiarios bajo cobertura. Cabe mencionar que con la inscripción y por cada prestación que se brinde al beneficiario en cada servicio de salud, ese establecimiento recibe fondos para mejorar sus instalaciones, comprar equipamiento o capacitar a su recurso humano, con la finalidad de lograr una mayor calidad en la atención.
